Aftermath Against Miami: RJ Davis Sets a New Dean Smith Center Record

Image
(Photo Courtesy Grant Halverson/Getty Images)  By JEREMIAH ARTACHO Chapel Hill, N.C. --- The Dean Smith Center record for the most points scored was previously set by Tyler Hansbrough back in 2006 during his freshman season at UNC. North Carolina's all-time leader in points scored 40 against the Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets on February 15th, 2006, as the Tar Heels routed to an 82-75 win under former Coach Roy Williams. Williams was only into his second year of being the head coach at the time of Hansbrough setting the new single-game scoring record. However, after yesterday night, that record held once by Psycho T now belongs to RJ Davis.  RJ Davis' Record Setting Performance  Arguably his worst game against UVa was UNC's last time out, where RJ Davis shot the basketball 1-14 as his only made bucket came from downtown. Although Davis' finished the game with 12 points, the other nine came at the expense of drawing fouls, sending him to the free throw line.  Two ...

Preview Against Miami: #9 North Carolina Meet the Hurricanes at the Dean Smith Center

Image
(Photo Courtesy Jim Hawkins/Inside Carolina)  Chapel Hill - The now-ranked #9 North Carolina Tar Heels have a date taking place at the Dean Smith Center with the Miami Hurricanes tonight at 7:00 p.m. on ESPN as Coach Davis' and his squad look to continue their search for the mojo they possessed during the month of January, featuring a win streak of 10 games. On the other hand, while sitting at the bottom of the ACC standings, Coach Larrañaga and his roster are in much need of a win by any means possible, riding a six-game losing streak heading into tonight's matchup.    UNC entered the John Paul Jones Arena with a losing streak that began in February of 2013, as despite the many talented rosters both former Coach Roy Williams and Coach Davis have had, they were unable to come out of there with a win. But all that changed this past weekend. The Tar Heels broke their losing ways with a 54-44 win against the Wahoos that included an 18-point outburst by graduate studen...

AP Polls Week 16: The Tar Heels Rise Above in This Week's Rankings

Image
(Photo Courtesy Jim Hawkins/Inside Carolina)  Chapel Hill - As this past week of games concludes, UNC is placed one spot higher in this week's listing of the AP Polls. A historical road win against Virginia this past Saturday for the first time since February 2012, ending at 54-44, provided the Tar Heels with the number nine spot. Arguably, Cormac Ryan's best performance of the season sparked the team's success.    AP Poll Rankings Week 16, according to  ESPN    1. Houston   2. Purdue  3. UConn     4. Tennessee  5. Aftermath Against Virginia: Cormac Ryan Leads #10 UNC to Victory over the Cavaliers

Image
(Photo Courtesy Jim Hawkins/Inside Carolina) By JEREMIAH ARTACHO Charlottesville, Va. --- Armando Bacot and RJ Davis did not have their usual high-level scoring performance against Virginia yesterday afternoon, despite #10 UNC pulling out a 54-44 win for the first time at the John Paul Jones Arena since February 25th, 2012. However, a new face to this season's roster but familiar to the ACC conference itself bolstered the offense when Coach Davis and everybody else on the sidelines needed it the most.  Cormac Ryan or Stephen Curry?  The continuation of a slow, low-scoring, and ugly between UNC  and UVa happened once more. Both teams brought two extremely different styles of basketball, as Coach Davis looks to have his team pushing the pace whenever and however, no matter the situation at hand during the game. On the opposite end, Coach Bennett for the Cavaliers preaches a slow-oriented brand of basketball where at times his players use up the entire shot clock to draw up ...

(Photo Courtesy Jim Hawkins/Inside Carolina)  Chapel Hill - Later this afternoon at 4:00 p.m. on ESPN, the #10 North Carolina will take on the Virginia Cavaliers on the road as they look to snap a losing streak at the John Paul Jones Arena that dates back until Sunday, January 6th, 2013, during the 2012-2013 season that featured freshmen Marcus Paige and Brice Johnson. The Tar Heels lost that game 61-52. UNC's all-time record against the Cavs stands at 23-22, taking advantage while at home, marking a standing of 15-7 but going 6-13 away from the Dean Smith Center.    Armando Bacot kept the Tar Heels steady in their 96-81 victory against Virginia Tech last Saturday, entering with 25 points and 12 rebounds and shooting 11 of 16 from the field through his 30 minutes of game action. RJ Davis added 20 points to the stat sheet, along with five assists. The four-man, Harrison Ingram, had a huge game on the glass, snagging 17 boards, possessing such a knack for reboundi...

What is Armando Bacot's Favorite NIL Deal?

Image
(Photo Courtesy Jim Hawkins/Inside Carolina)  Chapel Hill, N.C. --- Throughout Armando Bacot's career at the University of North Carolina, he has created a name, an image, and an extreme amount of likeness due to his physical appearance among the many Tar Heel fans across the country.    Armando Bacot came out of IMG Academy as a five-star big man listed at #18 in the ESPN 100. The Richmond, Virginia, native entered the UNC roster in 2019 alongside Jeremiah Francis, Anthony Harris, and Cole Anthony, the headliner of one of Roy William's final recruiting classes, before officially retiring after the 2020–2021 basketball season came to a close.    The NIL policy, or, in other words, name, image, and likeness, was allowed back in 2021, as the NCAA allowed collegiate athletes to produce money off who they are while still being in school simultaneously.    For Bacot, this elevated his basketball career off the court tremendously, earning deals with c...

UNC is coming off a loss to Syracuse, where they just couldn't find a stop on the defensive end as the Orange completed the outing, scoring on a total of 63%.    The recent struggles of the Heels appeared yet again in their last battle, which took place in New York, as they have not been possessing the kind of defense displayed during the scorching 10-game winning streak last month.
