Chapel Hill - Coach Davis and #3 North Carolina entered Coral Cables yesterday afternoon, beating the Miami Hurricanes in a closely matched contest that came down to the final minutes, 75-72. The backcourt of Elliot Cadeau and RJ Davis carve the path for victory, combining for 44 points.
Career-High for Cadeau
Elliot Cadeau marks a new career-high in points scored in a game against Miami with 19 points on top of dishing out 8 assists. The freshman was efficient from the field, converting 7 of 14 times. Watching Cadeau play, it is very evident that his confidence is rising from one bucket to the next, including his game from the outside, not shying away from launching a three-ball. Besides his aggression on the offensive end, the point guard out of West Orange, New Jersey, secured four steals in the process. Jumping the lane and turning defense into easy scores. The development by the coaching staff has been eye-popping; credit goes to Coach Paige, the former point guard from 2012–2016, for helping guide the rookie.
Overcoming Adversity
Unlike the Clemson outing, the Tar Heels were firing on all cylinders; by the 12:44 mark, they were up 20-8. Nonetheless, after that point, the Hurricanes fought back and later, during the first half with 3:30 left, took the lead following a Wooga Poplar layup, raising the score to 34-33. The last two minutes were a back-and-forth battle, trading leads, although the Hurricanes concluded the first 20 with a lead of 41-40. Whatever Coach Davis said in the locker room during halftime worked greatly. With 13:11 left to go in the game, Armando Bacot put North Carolina up 10, 58-48. For the most part, they sustained the double-digit edge until a scoring drought occurred that lasted 2:36, ending with an Elliot Cadeau free throw. At that point, the score was 73-69; 22 seconds later, the Wooga Poplar again scored to cut the deficit down to two points. Cormac Ryan then committed a turnover but disrupted the transition opportunity, forcing the ball out of bounds. Off the inbound, Bacot came up with a huge block on Norchad Omier as he went up for a basket around the rim. Eventually, with the help of made-free throws by Harrison Ingram and Ryan, the Hurricanes salted away on the road, coming out victorious.On the Way to New York
UNC will stick to the road as they adventure out to battle the Syracuse Orange (15-9, 6-7 conference). The contest is this coming Tuesday, February 13th, at 7:00 p.m.
