Chapel Hill: The #7 Tar Heels hit the road to New York and eventually took another ACC conference, losing 86-79. An explosive offensive performance from the whole Syracuse team bolstered them ahead of North Carolina, routing them to victory.

No Defensive Answer for Syracuse

Unfortunately, unlike UNC's 10-game winning streak, they have been uncharacteristically lacking on the defensive end, and last night it showed.

The Tar Heels were unable to stop the offensive horsepower provided by Syracuse's backcourt of J.J Starling and Judah Mintz. The two combined for 48 points on 17 of 26 from the field for the game. Overall, the Orange shot a total of 63%; it felt like the basket was 100 times bigger for Coach Autry's squad.

After the team's success during the month of January, it feels out of the ordinary for Coach Davis' team to perform the way they have as of late. However, considering the fight and grit the team has displayed throughout the first 25 games, there's no doubt that this squad will be able to find their way back on track.

Minute Usage of the Bench

By the look of the box score, the usage of the starters felt similar to the 2021–2022 lineup featuring Caleb Love, RJ Davis, Leaky Black, Brady Manek, and Armando Bacot, iconically known as the Iron Five. Back then, the five would shoulder the load of the minutes as there was little to no bench production.

Yesterday's game felt just like that, as the regular usage of the bench seen this season was not on display, unexpectedly. It's not hard to believe, as the starters at the time were the best option for Coach Davis and staff to have the chance for a win.

Regardless, the rotation has been solidified, hence the success leading up until now. This team and everyone involved have found their role, and that's the most important part.

Moving on to Virginia Tech

This Saturday, February 17th, at 2:00 p.m. on ACCN, the Tar Heels return to the Dean Smith Center for a clash against Virginia Tech (14-10, 6-7 conference).

Another chance for UNC to build momentum and course correct to where they were just a few weeks ago as March creeps around the corner.
