ACC Tournament: The Tar Heels Will Play the Pittsburgh Panthers in the Semifinals

Image
(Photo Courtesy Greg Fiume/GettyImages)  By JEREMIAH ARTACHO  Washington, N.C. --- A crushing victory over the Florida State Seminoles earlier this afternoon has shifted the attention of Coach Davis and his team to the Pittsburgh Panthers, who defeated the Wake Forest Demon Deacons by double figures, 81-69. Now UNC can game plan prior to tomorrow's 7:00 p.m. start time. One victory away from getting to the ACC championship.    The Tar Heels come off a strong victory against Florida State in blowout fashion, 92-67. North Carolina had four guys in double figures: RJ Davis, Cormac Ryan, Armando Bacot, and Seth Trimble. On top of that, the Heels had seven other guys who entered the scoring column for Coach Davis.    It was a slow start for Carolina, but they eventually found their way after getting comfortable and began to string a few buckets together. The halftime arrived, and the Tar Heels saw themselves having a 46-30 run after the first 20 minutes of actio...

ACC Quarterfinal Aftermath: North Carolina Stomps on Florida State

Image
(Photo Courtesy Greg Fiume/GettyImages) By JEREMIAH ARTACHO       Washington, D.C. --- The Tar Heels were patiently waiting yesterday to figure out their opponent for the quarterfinals of the ACC Tournament. When it comes to the Florida State Seminoles, whom they have already beaten twice, there's always the narrative about how it's hard to top a team three times in one season. Fortunately, for Coach Davis, his team is pretty daggum good, as former Coach Roy Williams may say.  North Carolina's performance was seemingly a combination of all the highlights of the regular season put into one game. Elliot Cadeau's slashing and passing, RJ Davis' three-point shooting, Cormac being Cormac, Harrison Ingram muscling his way on the interior, and Armando Bacot. Passionate as ever, especially after one play where UNC fought long and hard for the offensive rebound leading to a putback, the team afterwards proceeded to let out arguably the most intense celebration of ...

ACC Tournament: Quarterfinals Are Set for North Carolina

Image
(Photo Courtesy Grant Halverson/GettyImages)  By JEREMIAH ARTACHO  Washington, D.C. --- #4 Tar Heels now have their sights on tomorrow's game following the conclusion of the matchup between #8-seeded Virginia Tech and #9-seeded Florida State.    North Carolina will be taking on Florida State tomorrow, March 14th, at noon, televised on ESPN, in the quarterfinals of the ACC Tournament. FSU experienced a tough battle with the Hokies but managed to pull out an 86-76, achieving a double-digit triumph.  This will mark round number three between the two schools, as in the last two outings, the Heels came out victorious. Back on December 2nd, the Tar Heels came back down by as many as 14 points against the Seminoles, but it was not until Coach Davis instructed his team to run a full court press that they climbed back into the game. Ever since that happened, North Carolina did not look back, as that defensive strategy was ultimately the biggest factor in getting the win....

2023-2024 ACC Awards for #4 North Carolina

Image
(Photo Courtesy Grant Halverson/GettyImages)  By JEREMIAH ARTACHO Chapel Hill, N.C. --- A new week has begun, and North Carolina was featured in many ACC conference awards earlier this afternoon. The aftermath of a 25-6 regular season featured many special performances, from RJ Davis' 42-point outing against Miami at home, Harrison Ingram's spectacular game against then-ranked #7 Duke during the first matchup, Elliot Cadeau's 10-assist game against then-ranked #10 Tennessee, to just a couple of days ago Cormac Ryan's 31-point performance against now-ranked #9 Duke on the road. All of these outcomes would not have been possible without the head coaching job by Hubert Davis. Sliding one chair over on the sidelines after the 2020–2021 season concluded, former coach Roy Williams decided to retire after a long but successful career.    Hubert Davis, in only his third season controlling the game plan for Carolina, has earned his first ACC Coach of the Year award. From ma...

ICYMI Let's Read: Quotes Following Duke

Image
(Photo Courtesy Grant Halverson/GettyImages) By JEREMIAH ARTACHO  Durham, N.C. --- This past Saturday's eventful contest consisted of water and many other items thrown by Duke students towards the Tar Heels following their road win over at Cameron Indoor Stadium. We will take an inside look about what Coach Davis, Cormac Ryan, and Armando Bacot had to say about the outright ACC regular-season champion clincher.  Hubert Davis  "To be able to make shots but even just as important his experience. Having a guy that's been at this stage even though it's from another school, he's played here; he's been on this stage. He understands what it takes, in order to make plays to even have a chance to win in this type of game against this type of team. He did step up, knocking down threes, but defensively, his presence, his poise, his leadership in the huddles. During halftime before the game, it's just mean so much to this team and this program," Coach Davis said a...

Unsung Heroes for Coach Davis: Jae'Lyn Withers and Seth Trimble Against #9 Duke on Saturday Night

Image
(Photo Courtesy Grant Halverson/GettyImages) By JEREMIAH ARTACHO  Durham, N.C. --- Saturday's win by #7 North Carolina, 84-79, was starred by Notre Dame transfer Cormac Ryan and featured his six three-pointers and drives in the lane, resulting in free throw opportunities. All of that resulted in his 31-point outburst that lifted the Tar Heels over the #9 Duke Blue Devils (24-7, 15-3 conference). RJ Davis and Armando Bacot did enough to make a contribution, not having their best games exactly. Harrison Ingram was being that chippy guy he discussed with reporters this past Thursday during the pre-Duke press conference. And Elliot Cadeau quietly orchestrated the offense while making his shifty finishes around the rim.    The starters were great, no question about it; however, the bench came up big time in a game where being the outright ACC regular-season champions was on the line.    The Louisville transfer, Jae'Lyn Withers, and the sophomore from Menomonee...

Aftermath Against #9 Duke: Cormac Ryan's New Career-High Does the Job for UNC

Image
(Photo Courtesy Grant Halverson/GettyImages) By JEREMIAH ARTACHO  Durham, N.C. — The #7-ranked North Carolina Tar Heels are officially the outright ACC regular-season champions. Saturday night, they entered Cameron Indoor Stadium with a ton of Duke fans in attendance, as usual. Barking, chirping, and doing whatever it takes to prevent the Heels from becoming victorious.    RJ Davis and Armando Bacot were not there offensively tonight, but they contributed enough to get the job done. It was a Cormac Ryan 31-point performance that skyrocketed North Carolina over the Blue Devils on the road. Ryan's first three made baskets to open the game all came from downtown, making two identical three-pointers from the right corner.   Ryan used his ability to hit three-pointers to open up the driving lanes as, during the second half, he started to drive the ball and was able to get to the free-throw line.    To begin the game at the 16:26 mark, UNC had already buil...

Harrison Ingram: He's Kind of like a Light Switch

Image
(Photo Courtesy Peyton Williams/GettyImages) By JEREMIAH ARTACHO Chapel Hill, N.C. --- Harrison Ingram, a transfer from Stanford who spent his first two years of college basketball on the west coast, has been an extremely vital piece to UNC's success this season. Although he is undersized and plays the four position next to Armando Bacot in the front court, he provides all of the necessary skills to make an impact in more ways than one.  During his pre-Duke press conference, Ingram was asked numerous questions, whether it was about his life on the court or off the court. Ingram's personality is unique, as away from the hardwood, he enjoys the fun of playing chess in-person or online.  "My hobbies, like chess or whatever, the stuff he does, him going to his kid's games, and just anything really about life," when asked about his individual conversations with head coach Hubert Davis.  "It is a hobby since I was like seven," followed by "pretty good,...

Preview Against #9 Duke: Top 10 Matchup at Cameron Indoor Stadium

Image
(Photo Courtesy Grant Halverson/GettyImages)  By JEREMIAH ARTACHO  Chapel Hill, N.C. --- #7-ranked North Carolina will enter the Cameron Indoor Stadium this coming Saturday evening at 6:30 p.m. on ESPN to battle their long-standing rival, the #9 Duke Blue Devils. If UNC is able to exit Durham with a win, then they are the outright regular season champions; if not, then they would share the title with Duke. The ACC Tournament seedings are a factor as well, but everything remains to be seen. However, from here on out, it's a do-or-die situation for the Heels.    North Carolina is strong off their senior night victory against the Notre Dame Fighting Irish, 84-51. By the time the first half concluded, it was pretty much a done deal. From the defensive intensity and all-around scoring efforts to Armando Bacot hitting two three-pointers during the second half, it could not have been any better.    It seemed like a perfect night for Carolina basketball. RJ ...

Let's Read: Quotes Following Notre Dame

Image
(Photo Courtesy Grant Halverson/GettyImages)  By JEREMIAH ARTACHO  Chapel Hill, N.C. --- After the conclusion of last night's victory, which saw #7 UNC ahead of Notre Dame by 33 points by the end, as the regulation clock sounded off, it began one last wave for all the seniors. Here is a deep dive into some of the things that were said by Coach Davis and his players postgame.    Coach Davis  "What does it mean for you to see those guys go out? Especially Armando, who's now played the most games in ACC history." " Yeah, it was just a really emotional night seeing them before the game with their parents on the floor and just thinking about so many memories, so many moments that you spent with each other. I've talked about how things get so busy you just go from moment to moment, you don't have very few times just to be able to enjoy the moment. And it was nice to be able to enjoy the moment of them being celebrated for what they've done for this year...

Aftermath Against Notre Dame: #7 Tar Heels Breeze by Notre Dame on Senior Night

Image
(Photo Courtesy Icon Sportswire/GettyImages)  By JEREMIAH ARTACHO Chapel Hill, N.C. --- The #7 Tar Heels claim victory on senior night with a ginormous win, blowing out the Notre Dame Fighting Irish by 33 points, 84-51. This game took a little bit of everybody on the offensive end to share the load in an entertaining and enjoyable manner.    One last match before the big regular season finale against Duke this coming Saturday, UNC came into this game with their foot on gas from start to finish. The Duke victory last month was stuck in between two losses versus Georgia Tech and Clemson.    "I don't think there's really many emotions for me because I'm just a junior and I just got here. For me, it wasn't that many emotions. I just want to get the win, and you know, not take this team lightly because I feel like last time we played Duke leading up to the game, we lost Georgia Tech before then lost to Clemson after," Harrison Ingram said after the game regard...
