Chapel Hill, N.C. --- A new week has begun, and North Carolina was featured in many ACC conference awards earlier this afternoon. The aftermath of a 25-6 regular season featured many special performances, from RJ Davis' 42-point outing against Miami at home, Harrison Ingram's spectacular game against then-ranked #7 Duke during the first matchup, Elliot Cadeau's 10-assist game against then-ranked #10 Tennessee, to just a couple of days ago Cormac Ryan's 31-point performance against now-ranked #9 Duke on the road. All of these outcomes would not have been possible without the head coaching job by Hubert Davis. Sliding one chair over on the sidelines after the 2020–2021 season concluded, former coach Roy Williams decided to retire after a long but successful career.
Hubert Davis, in only his third season controlling the game plan for Carolina, has earned his first ACC Coach of the Year award. From making the championship during the 2021–2022 campaign to missing the tournament after being named preseason #1 last season, resulting in many exits from the program, and now with a revamped roster adding six new guys, it's quite the story for a recently hired head coach. On top of all of that, he won his first piece of hardware by being crowned the ACC regular-season champs. However, that's not the main goal for him and his roster.
Being named the 2024 National Champion is what's most desired.
RJ Davis, Armando Bacot, Harrison Ingram, and Elliot Cadeau represent UNC among the award winners. Davis earns the first ACC Player of the Year award since Justin Jackson back in 2017, the year Carolina won the national championship against Gonzaga. Bacot was placed on the All-ACC second team as well as the All-Defensive team. Ingram, in his first season at Chapel Hill, saw his name written underneath the All-ACC third team. The frosh, Elliot Cadeau, who came in a season earlier, reclassifying from 2024, achieved the All-Rookie team.
Seth Trimble also earned some votes for the Sixth Man of the Year award, and rightfully so. The freshman to sophomore jump that many fans were talking about during the preseason, wondering if Trimble could contribute, happened. Trimble, in his second season, averaged five points, two rebounds, and an assist. All 46% shooting throughout the season. His career high in points has been raised to 12 on different occasions. These stats are all an increase compared to his two points, one rebound, and an assist.
North Carolina is riding high on a six-game winning streak and hopes to continue its success in March. The outcome of every single game moving forward determines how long we all get to see the Heels play. It's a one-game elimination, and Coach Davis and his team only get two lives total between the ACC and NCAA Tournaments.
RJ Davis enters the postseason averaging 21 points, four rebounds, and four assists. Shooting 43% from the field and 42% from deep. Armando Bacot stands at 14 points, 10 rebounds, and two assists on 54% shooting overall. Harrison Ingram, in his first postseason with North Carolina, scored 13 points, nine rebounds, and two assists while making about 43% of his shots. Elliot Cadeau, in his first year of college, marks the stat sheet with eight points, two rebounds, and four assists per game.
