The Highly Touted Matchup Between Bacot And Dickinson

Arguably the two top big men in their respective conferences, this individual matchup of Armando Bacot and Hunter Dickinson was very anticipated ahead of this game.

Though it was Bacot who came out on top in this battle, he finished the game scoring 26 points on 11 of 15 shooting from the field, while Dickinson finished with 9 points on 3 of 9 shooting from the field.

Bacot and Dickinson played together on an AAU team way before the college stage, so there is plenty of history between the two centers.

Feels like UNC got the better commitment by looks of it. 

Tempers Flared For Both Teams

At the 6:53 mark in the first half, Caleb Love was driving to the rim on the left side for a layup, gets fouled in the process while falling down, and then Hunter Dickinson hovers on top of him and it appears he sticks his right knee out towards Love's face.

Love wasn't having it and decides to get up and talk to Dickinson then out of nowhere Dug McDaniel pushes Love and that is where all of the pushing and shoving begins for both teams. 

Luckily for the Tar Heels, no one had to be ejected from the game.

Ever since that altercation happened, UNC got the spark they needed as the Heels went on a scoring run and took a 41-34 lead going into halftime. 

The wonder is if UNC were to play with an angry attitude without the altercation part, which is scary because they looked like a very good basketball team after the incident.

UNC's Star Studded Backcourt Executes Once Again  

Caleb Love and R.J Davis ball out once more in this matchup against Michigan, scoring 18 points (for Love) and 19 points (for Davis) for a total of 37 together.

Along with shooting 5/13 from the 3-point line, totaling 38% combined for the game. as well as dishing out nine of the team's 13 assists together, as they should, being the lead guards.

The Tar Heels Offense Flowed So Smoothly 

This is what all of the Carolina fans likely expected the squad's gameplay to look like, as they fed the ball inside to Bacot while also playing inside-out, making the smart pass.

The guards, Love and Davis, were able to get downhill inside, along with knocking down triples.

Leaky Black was doing Leaky Black things—a put-back dunk, back taps off rebounds—just the usual activities by the fifth-year senior out of Concord, North Carolina.

The bench was able to provide solid minutes off the bench, despite what the numbers say, and they were able to give the starters much-needed rest, something that was not so evident a season ago.

Next Matchup For The Heels 

UNC travels to Pittsburgh for another true road game at the Petersen Events Center. The game tips off at 12:00 p.m. ET this Friday, December 30th. Hopefully, Carolina can finish the 2022 year off with a victory.

UNC Basketball: A Rematch of the 2016 National Title Game

   (Photo Courtesy Jim Hawkins/Inside Carolina) Chapel Hill - UNC vs. Villanova is here.   Coach Davis and the Tar Heels are presented with a contest that has a very intense past history.   Back in the 2016 National Championship after beating a 10-seeded Syracuse team during the Final Four that ended with a score of 83-66. Then proceeded on to face Coach Wright and a 35-4 Villanova entering the game on the last Monday of the season.   The starters for former Coach Williams consisted of a senior Marcus Paige, a junior Joel Berry II, a sophomore Justin Jackson, a junior Kennedy Meeks, and an outstanding senior Brice Johnson.   It's now 2023, with a new coach, new players, and a whole brand-new system due to modern-day basketball.   UNC handled Northern Iowa after a slow first half, 91-69, as six players accumulated at least 10 points to their name.   Villanova defeated Texas Tech in their quarterfinal game 85-69, as the pair o...

UNC Basketball Preview: Jumpman Invitational

(Photo Courtesy Jim Hawkins/Inside Carolina)  Chapel Hill - Tomorrow, December 20th, at 9:00 p.m., the Tarheels will play the #7 Oklahoma Sooners in the Jumpman Invitational. Last season, the Heels won this special event against Michigan by a score of 80-76. Coach Davis and his team seek to snap their two-game losing streak after the battles involving #5 UConn in the Jimmy V Classic and #9 Kentucky in the CBS Sports Classic. UNC went toe-to-toe against Kentucky, shrinking deficits throughout the game, which unfortunately resulted in a turnover during their last halfcourt possession in what looked to be a setup for an RJ Davis catch-and-shoot three-pointer. However, Davis blasted for 27 points with seven rebounds and four assists, alongside Cormac Ryan's 20-point outing, shooting eight of twelve for the game and four of seven from behind the three-point line.
