Seth Trimble Started In Place Of Pete Nance

Just inside the first two minutes of the last outing against Wake Forest, the fifth year senior transfer from Northwestern, Pete Nance, exited the game due to an apparent back injury, as reported.

Trimble makes his first career start in this one, facing the Irish alongside Davis, Love, Black, and Bacot. As shown in recent games, it is arguable that when these five are inserted on the floor, the momentum starts to rise positively.

This game was no different, as from the beginning, the Heels jumped out to a 5-o start with a corner three by Love with the pass made by Bacot out of a double-team on the right block, followed by a Leaky Black no-look pass inside to Bacot for the slam in transition on the next offensive trip.

Seth Trimble was getting very active on the defensive end causing a lot of disruption, using his supreme athleticism against his drawn assignment.

This small-ball lineup consists of two very good on-ball defenders in Trimble and, of course, Black, two star-studded guards in Davis and Love, and then arguably the country's best big man and possible ACC Player of the Year winner, Armando Bacot.

A very well-rounded group.

Caleb Love Came To Play

In previous matchups before Notre Dame, Caleb Love was not performing like the Caleb Love we all once saw a season ago.

Though, he was able to find a groove in his shot, finishing off the game with 18 points on 6 for 16 shooting from the field, making 50% of his 3 point attempts going 3-6.

A happy sight indeed, as Love played with so much passion that we are all used to seeing out of him, as he was able to throw down a right-hand slam in transition, putting the Heels up 22-18 around the 8:48 mark in the first half.

Surely, this should be able to bring Love's confidence back as UNC needs this kind of production for the rest of the year.

UNC Gained Production Off The Bench

The bench came to play.

Totaling 22 points all together (Johnson with 11, Dunn with 7, Washington with 2, and Nickel with 2), the Heels were able to get an efficient outing, allowing the starters to get some much-needed rest.

It was a whole team effort by the Heels that for sure made Coach Davis happy, nonetheless.

Carolina has all the pieces for a great bench with length, size, and athleticism. It is only up to the players to perform at the highest level.

The Tar Heels Head Back On The Road

A big game ahead approaches as the team travels to Charlottesville, Virginia for the chance to upset the #11 ranked team in the country.

The Heels get another late start at 9:00 p.m. ET on Tuesday, January 10th.
