Chapel Hill - After many turnovers, missed rebounds, and a failed executed play to end the game, led to #9 UNC's fall to #14 Kentucky which concluded at 87-83.
Costly Turnovers
North Carolina finished the game with 17 turnovers, one gaining more significance than the last as this matchup against the Wildcats came down to the closing minutes.
Whether it was due to an illegal screen, stepping out of bounds, or a bad pass, the ball security was nowhere to be found last night for Coach Davis and his squad.
The continued mishandling was daunting to the Tarheels trying to regain their footing from one possession to the next.
Fortunately, despite everything, this only bolsters the team's film session, as there will be a ton of play-by-play breakdowns to learn from and fix mistakes.
Offensive Production
After the first 10 games of the 2023-2024 season, if one thing's for sure, it's that RJ Davis continues to explode on the offensive end, as he racked up 27 points on eight of eighteen from the field, three of nine from downtown, and eight of nine from the charity stripe.
Cormac Ryan came alive as he stepped up with 20 points, shooting eight of twelve for the game and four of seven from behind the arc. The shooting capabilities of Ryan are crucial to this team's success, as they create more space for driving lanes and post-up opportunities.
However, the shot attempts for Armando Bacot were limited, unfortunately, as a result of the Heels failing to get the ball inside from the perimeter. Bacot only took four shots all night long, regardless of having a younger and lighter defender guarding him.
The offensive scheme and roster personnel play around the fifth-year senior from Richmond, Virginia. However, the execution has yet to reach the standards of Coach Davis's liking, as he always preaches.
Jumpman Invitational
This coming Wednesday, December 20th, at 9:00 p.m. on ESPN, North Carolina will take on #11 Oklahoma, who are currently sitting at an undefeated record of 10-0.
One last Top 25 matchup for UNC during their non-conference slate.
