Chapel Hil - #8 North Carolina defeats the Pittsburgh Panthers in their first true road game of the 2023-2024 season by a score of 70 - 57.
Armando Bacot Takes Charge
For the first time in awhile, RJ Davis is not the leading scorer, as the fifth-year senior out of Richmond, Virginia, and UNC's all-time leader in rebounds, Armando Bacot, carried the load with 16 points and 10 rebounds while shooting five of 10 throughout the game.
However, Davis did have 15 points and three rebounds to go along with four assists, respectively. Despite not leading the Heels in scoring in last night's contest, the guard was still productive as usual.
Cormac Ryan and Seth Trimble also added 10 points each to their names, racking up the boards in the process, combining for 13 through 40 minutes of game action.
Regarding Bacot's situation, he has not been performing to the level we all know he can, but hopefully, this performance on the road can be the start of something moving forward.
The Versatility of Harrison Ingram
Yesterday evening may not have been the kind of performance Harrison Ingram was looking to produce, but he was still effective in every other way possible. He ended the clash against Pittsburgh with seven points on two of 14 shots.
However, Ingram's role as the small-ball four on this roster requires him to be able to shoot and also play inside, though one underlying factor is rebounding. The transfer from Stanford totaled 15 rebounds alone, constantly getting active on the glass all night for the Tar Heels.
Besides rebounding, Ingram was able to play defense extremely well as he drew the assignment of Blake Hinson, who leads the Panthers in scoring at 19 points per game. By the end of the night, Ingram held him to 11 points, shooting six of 17 from the field and two of 8 from behind the three-point line in 31 minutes.
Ingram continues to be such an outstanding piece out of the transfer portal for Coach Davis.
